The Cannes Contemporary Art Biennale, entitled "New Wave," distinguishes each artist selected by a jury by awarding them a prize and covering the production costs of their works.
For its first edition, it will span a period of over two years. It was presented to the press in January 2024.
A call for proposals will be launched in September 2024 for the second edition, with a submission deadline at the end of December 2024. The current theme under consideration is that of the horizon, and the jury will select the artists in January 2025.
For the next edition of the Biennale, the hotel plans to retain a sample room from each artist from the first Biennale. The works from one room will be auctioned off at a charity event in December 2025, and each artist will retrieve the works produced for 10 out of the 12 rooms produced.
This prize represents a notable innovation, offering each selected artist both symbolic and material recognition. In addition to the financial award, artists benefit from the coverage of production costs for their works. This initiative also provides them with the opportunity to showcase their work to an international audience, often well-informed, during various events in Cannes, such as the International Film Festival. In essence, this prize serves as a unique platform for artists to connect with a wide audience while receiving tangible support for the creation of their works.
Furthermore, artists have committed not only to exhibit their work but also to organize open and spontaneous workshops with children from schools in Cannes.
As part of our commitment to promoting cultural exchanges, private collections of artworks will be temporarily exhibited in the hotel lobby.
